Perry is a Doak Walker finalist and the ACC’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2001 … a quick, explosive tailback who is surprisingly powerful … combines quick feet, a strong burst, breakaway speed and excellent open-field moves … hits holes hard and is always a threat to go the distance … always seems to finish plays falling forward … has the added dimension of being an exceptional receiver … recorded a 40˝-inch vertical jump and a 330-pound bench on testing day … finished his career in the Maryland top five for yards.

2003 (Senior): Played in nine games, starting four … sixth in the ACC with 71.8 rushing yards per game … second on the team with 646 rushing yards … (at WFU) … had an outstanding game, averaging 9.5 yards on 25 carries for 237 yards and three touchdowns … 237 yards ties George Scott’s performance against Villanova in 1977 for the fifth-best single game rushing performance in Maryland history … had an 80-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, as he ran off left tackle and beat defenders downfield … broke through a hole in the right side of the line and outran defenders downfield for a 49-yard touchdown run in the third quarter … made a reception in the third quarter on a screen pass for a successful two-point conversion … named ACC Offensive Back of the Week … (vs. UNC) … ran for 96 yards on 17 carries before leaving the game in the second quarter due to injury … began the game very strong, marching the Terps down the field on their opening drive of the game with 53 yards on eight rushing attempts … (at GT) … had a strong performance with 75 yards on 17 rushing attempts and added two receptions … (vs. Duke) … scored his third rushing touchdown of the season in the third quarter as he came off right tackle, and broke two tackles on the way to the end zone …took a screen pass from Scott McBrien and weaved his way up the sideline for a gain of 28 yards … (vs. WVU) … finished with 79 yards on just 14 carries … recorded his first two-touchdown game since his career-high 276-yard, two-touchdown effort against Wake Forest in 2001 … first touchdown of the night came in the first quarter as he sprinted off left tackle for four yards … his second touchdown came in the third quarter as he bounced off two defenders for 12 yards on his way to the end zone … (at FSU) … started his first game of the season at tailback despite being hampered by a high ankle sprain … gained 33 yards on 10 rushing attempts.

2002 (Junior): Saw action in six games, starting one … finished the season third on the team in rushing with 341 yards despite only playing in a little over five games (was in for just one play in the Duke game) … scored one TD and averaged a solid 4.7 yards per carry … (Peach Bowl vs. UT) … led the team in rushing with 50 yards on 15 carries … (vs. WFU) … saw the most action since returning from his injury, carrying the ball 19 times for 85 yards … made one reception for a season-long 28 yards … (at UVa) … had 95 yards on 10 carries … had a 39-yard run on the Terps’ opening drive to help set up the early TD … added a 33-yard run in the third quarter on the drive which resulted in a Novak FG … (at CU) … gained 69 yards on 17 carries … his game-long run of 24 yards came in the fourth quarter … also added two receptions for 18 yards … (vs. NCSU) … scored his first TD of the season on a nine-yard run in the third quarter … finished with 23 yards on 10 carries … received a bulk of his carries in the fourth quarter and had all four rushing attempts on the game-winning drive … (at Duke) … made first appearance of the season … carried the ball on the opening play of the game for 19 yards, but injured his shoulder when tackled and did not return to the game.

 

2001 (Junior): Starter in all 11 regular season games and the Orange Bowl … rushed 219 times for 1,242 yards and 10 touchdowns … finished second on the team in receiving with 40 receptions for 359 yards and a pair of TDs … ACC Offensive Player of the Year … was the first non-senior to win the award and is just the first Terrapin to ever win the prestigious award … named a second-team All-American by Football News … a 2001 finalist for the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back … one of a record-tying seven Terps to earn first-team All-ACC honors … finished the season ranked 19th in the NCAA in rushing yards per game (112.9) … also ranked among the nation’s leaders in all-purpose yards per game (ninth/156.2) and scoring (69th/6.55 ppg) … averaged 5.7 yards per carry and had 12 touchdowns … became the only sophomore in Maryland history to have five consecutive 100-yard efforts … with his 64 yards on 10 carries in the first half of the WVU game, it snapped a streak of three straight 100-yard outings by halftime … was just the fifth Terp to crack the 1,000-yard plateau in a season … (vs. NCSU) ran for 91 yards on 21 carries … also caught five passes out of the backfield for 35 yards including a clutch fourth-down conversion on the team’s final drive that he caught as he was falling backwards toward the sideline … (vs. CU) led the Terps with 90 rushing yards on 21 carries … also caught three passes for 37 yards including the game-breaking score to put the Terps ahead 24-6 … (vs. FSU) led the Terps in receiving with six catches for 70 yards … had the team’s longest pass play on the day when he raced 38 yards on a swing pass to set up a Maryland touchdown … the 38-yard reception was the longest of Perry’s career … rushed for 67 yards on 13 carries (5.2 average) and a touchdown … was selected the player of the game for Maryland by ABC … (vs. Duke) had 79 rushing yards on 13 carries in limited action … led the team with six catches for 62 yards … scored the Terps’ second touchdown on a 12-yard run in the first quarter … (vs. GT) was held under 100 yards for the first time in the season, rushing for 49 yards on 18 carries … caught five passes, though … (vs. UVa) finished with 143 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown … also caught a career-high eight passes for 51 yards … (vs. WVU) posted a 31-carry, 153-yard performance … rushed for one touchdown while also catching two passes for 28 yards … (vs. WFU) turned in the second-best rushing performance in Maryland history with a career-high 276 yards on 30 carries … was named ACC Offensive Back of the Week for his efforts … the 276 yards trails only LaMont Jordan’s 306 yards gained vs. Virginia in 1999 in the Maryland record book … scored two touchdowns on the day on long runs of 80 and 50 yards … the 80-yard scamper was the first play of the game for the Terps on offense and was the longest run by a Terp since Jordan had a 90-yard run vs. Virginia in ’99 … his 276 yards were the most ever vs. Wake Forest, breaking the old mark by South Carolina’s George Rogers, who ran for 237 yards in 1978 … (vs. EMU) ran for 133 yards on just 16 carries … reached the century mark before halftime for the second straight week … scored a career-best three touchdowns … (vs. UNC) turned heads after his first career start … ran for 116 yards on 21 carries (5.5 yards per carry) … continued to get better and better as the game went on … totaled 70 yards in the second half at an impressive 7.8 yards per attempt.

1999 (Freshman): Saw action in seven games as a true freshman … was No. 3 in Maryland’s tailback rotation … averaged 6.5 yards per carry, toting 30 times for 195 yards … long carry was 43 yards … eight carries for 93 yards vs. Western Carolina … 7 for 47 the following week against West Virginia … caught one pass for nine yards in the West Virginia game.

High School: Graduated in 1999 from George Washington High School in Philadephia, Pa. … rushed for 1,041 yards and 12 touchdowns while playing in the wing T offense as a senior, his only season at Washington … averaged 9.9 yards per carry … had four touchdowns (two coming on punt returns) on just seven touches in one game his senior season … returned three punts for touchdowns, including one of 79 yards … earned All-America honors from PrepStar … was named the Philadelphia Offensive Player of the Year by the Philadelphia Inquirer and first team All-Met by the Philadelphia Daily News … he also was named first team all-state and first team all-area, and was a finalist for state Player of the Year honors … was selected to play in the city all-star game … was an honorable mention USA Today All-American and a SuperPrep all-region choice … helped Washington to a 10-1 record and a spot in the semifinals of the postseason playoffs … transferred to Washington for his senior season after playing his sophomore and junior seasons at Cardinal Dougherty High School … attended West Catholic High School as a freshman … ran a 10.4 100 meters at the AAU Junior Nationals.
